Welcome back, our dear patrons! The anticipation has been building, and the curtains are about to rise once more. The troupe is anxious, exuberant, and thrilled to be back on stage to bring you this somewhat farcical mystery with numerous intriguing twists and turns. Also, it is with great excitement that we introduce an addition to Park Players: Peggy Lawrence, the director of tonight’s show. She brings with her a passion for the stage and a flair for creativity.

We like to thank Louise Jalbert, Marie-France Rouleau and Sylvain Joly and the City of Longueuil for their assistance. And of course, we must thank our contributing individuals, and especially you our loyal patrons.

Please enjoy the show.
We thank you.

ABOUT THE PLAY

Edward Baxter was a successful psychiatrist, beloved by his many patients—until he was framed for murder. Now on the run with an assumed identity and a suspicious new wife, his luck is running out. Edward seeks help from Dr. Roberta Smith, a fellow psychiatrist.

When Edward’s meeting with Dr. Smith goes wildly awry and leaves Edward clinging precariously to his last shred of sanity, Dr. Smith’s patient Lydia arrives for her appointment to find Edward in big trouble.

Despite the chaos created by unexpected visitors, Lydia does her best to gain Edward’s trust and help him muddle through.

DIRECTED BY   Peggy Lawrence

After acting in minor parts for plays and singing solos in choirs during my youth, I left all forms of the arts far behind for decades. A rekindled interest inspired by the Centaur Theatre led me to ask a good friend whether I could join her group, the Park Players, a year into my early retirement last Spring (2023).

When several plays I had suggested for review were found to be of interest for the Park Players then, this one was chosen for production in the Fall of 2023. I accepted the offer to co-direct the play in order to ‘realize my vision’ for Psych. Thanks to tonight’s talented actors for their dedication and to my savvy co-director and to others in the theatre troupe for their guidance throughout the entire development process.

I am very proud to be a part of this collaborative production of Psych.

Lisa Nagy as DR. ROBERTA SMITH
Lisa is very excited to perform the roles of Dr. Smith and her twin sister, Sam, in this year’s Park Players’ production of Psych. She debuted her acting experience by playing Minna in last year’s production of Out of Sight, Out of Murder, where she learned how much she loves to act in front of a live audience. As a grade 4 teacher, Lisa is known for using different voices and being different characters as she makes learning any subject fun for her students. She would like to thank Park Players for giving her a chance and helping her discover the thrill of acting a variety of roles.
Robert Morin as EDWARD
Robert has been passionate about acting since as long as he can remember, which is a long time because he has a fantastic memory. Legend has it he can even remember being born. But that memory will be put to the test. With over 25 productions under his belt, he is undertaking his most challenging one yet. But that’s if Robert is not aFreud of a good challenge.

Will Robert need a shrink after Psych? Let’s find out together. Enjoy the show!
Aisling Kara Berube as LYDIA
Having been a member of Park Players for over a decade, Aisling has worn many hats during her time with this wonderful group. She last appeared virtually in Edge of Noir during the pandemic but has also been on stage before with roles in Come Blow Your Horn, 7 Ways to Say I Love You, and Boy Meets Girl: A Young Love Story. Aisling can’t wait to be on stage again, as long as the spirits she’s talking to will let her…
Jean-Louis Dagenais as IRVING
Son of professional actors, Jean-Louis Dagenais always loved the arts. Already in primary school, he was making his classmates laugh during Improv classes. However, his first real stab at the curtain was when he played Dr. Archambaud in his local high school’s representation of Francis Veber’s The Dinner Game. Unfortunately, while he enrolled in acting classes a few years back, he never got another stab at a production... until now! Psych is his very first production. While French is his mother tongue, he is bilingual and isn’t afraid to perform in English.
Sharon Todd as GANGSTER
Sharon has been an active “behind the scenes” member of Park Players for many years. Having thoroughly enjoyed being on stage for the first time in 2018’s A Christmas Carol, and more recently in the spring 2023 production of Out of Sight, Out of Murder, Sharon is looking forward to treading the boards once again in Park Players’ latest production.
Heather Bremner as SUZANNE
Since joining Park Players in 2019, Heather has played a nervous fiancée in Maggie’s Getting Married, a femme fatale in Out of Sight, Out of Murder, and will now finally get to play a happily (?) married woman in Psych. She’s thrilled to be back onstage with old friends and new!
Ian Keiller as PIZZA GUY
Ian is excited to finally be back on stage with the Park Players whom he started acting with in the 70s as a teenager. Last time on stage, pre-Covid, he performed at the Montreal Fringe Festival and the Rialto Theater in the comedy Leave the Therapy Take the Cannoli as a psychologist. He has done roles in various short films, music videos, and commercials. Ian continues to work at his craft at the Montreal School of Performing Arts (MSOPA) and will be heading to NYC for workshops in May.

The Park Players were born in 1961 and so was Ian.
Coincidence or fate?

Since 1961, Park Players has entertained the residents of Greenfield Park and surrounding areas. Founded by a small group of enthusiastic Greenfield Park residents in 1960, but adopting our official name in 1961, Park Players not only stages productions in the spring and fall of each year but are involved in the community year-round.

Over our time as an organization, our members have been involved in many local projects. These include lunch hour workshops for elementary school children, one act plays and activities for the “Golden Leaves”, a social centre for the elderly, and children’s plays for church potluck dinners. We are also proud to have aided in raising over $8 000 for our community organizations thanks to our concession sales over the years.
